How I Naturally Soothe Earaches
I get asked so often what I do when my kids (or I!) have an earache, so I wanted to put it all in one place... a simple, easy-to-share guide. This is just what I do for my family, using gentle, natural support alongside a few key supplements & it’s been such a helpful routine over the years.
Of course, this isn’t a replacement for medical care — if pain worsens, there’s a fever, or drainage, always check with a healthcare provider. But for everyday ear discomfort from congestion or mild infection, here’s what we do:
Gentle, Soothing Remedies at Home
These are the first things I reach for:
*Warm compress: A warm (not hot) pack over the ear for 10–15 minutes helps ease pain and increase circulation.
*Sea salt sock: Fill a clean sock with coarse sea salt, microwave slightly, and rest it on the ear. It draws out moisture and calms inflammation.
*Hydration & gentle movement: Sipping warm water or tea, chewing, and yawning help open the Eustachian tubes and relieve pressure.
*Elevate & rest: Sleeping with the head slightly elevated encourages fluid drainage.
*Lymphatic massage: Gentle strokes under the ear & down the neck toward the collarbone support natural drainage.
These simple steps make a big difference in comfort & support the body’s natural healing.
My Supplement Approach
When it comes to supplements, here’s what I do for my family:
*Congaplex + Citricidal (Grapefruit Seed) Ear Drops – This is my first step. Congaplex strengthens the immune system & supports cellular repair (I call it the Holy Grail for everything Ear, Nose & Throat 😊), while Citricidal Ear Drops provide gentle antimicrobial support directly in the ear canal. I have found these to be super effective!
IMPORTANT Only use the ear drops if the eardrum is intact — do not use if you suspect a ruptured eardrum or if there is drainage.
*Garlic Mullein Oil Drops: Just a few warm (never hot) drops into the ear if the eardrum is intact. These herbs are naturally antimicrobial & soothing. I do these if needed for added comfort.
*Spanish Black Radish – I only add this if the earache persists or gets worse. It supports detoxification, liver health, lymphatic drainage & helps reduce inflammation & congestion.
How We Put It All Together
Here’s a simple routine I often follow when someone in our family has an earache:
1. Begin with home remedies: warm compress, sea salt sock, gentle massage, rest & hydration.
2. Start Congaplex & Citricidal ear drops (as long as you do not suspect any rupture or see any drainage).
3. If the earache persists or worsens, add Spanish Black Radish for deeper detox & drainage support.
4. Continue gentle drainage work: chew, yawn, elevate the head.
5. Monitor closely. If symptoms worsen, seek professional care.
A Gentle Reminder
This is just what works for my family... a combination of rest, natural remedies & supportive supplements. I’ve seen it make a real difference in comfort & healing. Our bodies are designed to heal, & with a little gentle care, we can help that process along.
I hope this makes it easier for you to have a go-to plan for earaches, too! 💛
