Rest
I woke up extra early yesterday feeling a heaviness & overwhelm of to-do’s on my spirit. My husband asked me why I was pushing myself, to which I responded, “If I don’t get up this early, I won’t have enough time in the day to get everything done.” He reminded me not to strive & that God encourages us to rest, to which I huffed a quick “mmhmm” reply, brushed my teeth & headed downstairs.
As I got into the word (while speed walking on my walking pad mind you🤪 ) the message happened to be about how God tells us to rest on the 7th day — to not even bake bread but to instead do it the day before. I immediately felt convicted knowing that not only do I have trouble resting, but I also tend to meal prep on my ‘rest’ days (which I considered to be rest)!
When I finished my workout, I received a text from my husband saying, “This is a really good devotional today” & guess what the title was? REST. 🙄
It read :
“When you’re so tired you can hardly stand, doesn’t it feel wonderful when you finally get to sink into your own bed? Your body relaxes; your breathing slows; your bones just seem to melt into the mattress. And you rest.
Just as your body gets tired, so does your spirit. Trying to do the right thing can really wear you out sometimes. Sometimes you need a break.✨
Come to Me. Lift up your hands in prayer to Me. Lie back and rest in My Presence. Take a deep breath of My Peace. I will refresh you and give you the strength to keep going.”
The words “Trying to do the right thing can really wear you out sometimes” really jumped out at me. How often & easily do we get so caught up in our “to-dos” & what we feel we ‘should’ be doing that we forget to check in with our self & our spirit? 🤍
I was reminded, yet again, how I not only need to do a daily check in with myself but that there is great power in pause and REST. Not only will everything get done, everything will be so much better for it when you truly allow yourself that s p a c e.

Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest." -Matthew 11:28
