Mup.mondays :: Q&a

Mar 15, 2010 Make.up

tis' the third Monday of this month, therefore time for another installment of mup mondays.

Q. from Shannon :

Hey Ksen! Are there any make-up foundations you recommend for someone who has a tendency to break-out? Maybe something that looks natural with pretty good coverage? I know you use and love MAC, but i was wondering if you suggest or have worked with anything else that you love? Thanks!

A. from ksen :

hi Shannon. yes! i love love love all MAC products,,, especially when it comes to having make-up that lasts all day and/or wanting a clean, polished, professional look. however, when i was around 24 years old, i went through a very hard period of adult acne. i had never really experienced acne in my teenage years so it was incredibly trying, to say the least! i did so much research on my own, went from dermatologist to dermatologist, spent far toooo much money & still could not get rid of the acne.

at that time, MAC Full Coverage foundation or Select Cover-up combined with with Studio Moisture Fix lotion was my friend (not to say that they aren't now, i just don't use them on a run-out-the-door daily basis!).

and then. 3 beautiful, wonderFULL things happened...

1st) i met the most ah!mazing dermatologist ever. i mean, like E V E R. his name is Dr. Ali Moiin & the digits to his office (in case you or anyone ever needs an awesome dermatologist) are : 248.643.7677 . Dr. Moiin is straight to the point, knows what he is doing & WILL help you no matter what. hands down -- he rocks!

2nd) Dr. Moiin recommended i use Almay products & nothing else when it comes to foundation. he said that Almay happens to be the only product that is DEFINITELY 100% dermatologist recommended (yes, he said even those products that we spend booku bucks are are not!!!). so,,, just like that i tried it and have been an avid Almay consumer ever since (on top of my MAC 'addiction' , of course)!

i have tried almost all the different foundations throughout the years & i love them all for different reasons. in general, though, i tend to buy the foundation that best suites my skin depending on the season. for instance, right now it is more dry so i am using the Almay Line Smoothing Liquid Makeup for Dry Skin!
Almay Cosmetics and Skincare - Face Products - Foundation.
aaaand 3rd) just recently Dr. Moiin suggested washing my face with Dial soap. yes, like the actual bar of soap, the kind you rub-a-dub-dub in the tub with. i thought it was strange,,, but i trust him fully so i gave it a whirl! and MAN. let-me-tell-you!!! it leaves you with that squeaky clean feeling (which you may or may not like) however, it has totally helped my skin look fresh & keep any breakouts at bay! i *heart* the simplicity of it and of course, the cost isn't too shabby either!
Dial Corporate - Dial Corporate - Bar Soap
i hope that helps a bit!

***please keep in mind this is only my opinion through my own experiences & work!!!
in no way, shape, or form am i a make-up guru nor a dermatologist!
i also look forward to the lessons to be learned, experiences to be had & information shared.***

it is a gorgeous, sunshiney Monday out there! wishing you all a day filled with Vitamin D soaking...
sure does a mind, body, spirit & skin GOOD!
