Molly // Senior Pictures
when people first learn that i am a photographer, one of the questions asked is what i photograph?. "LIFE!" is usually the first thing to fall out of my mouth, followed with, "i genuinely enjoy getting to know people & capturing who they really are. i LOVE documenting the in-between moments, connections made. i want my photography to beam the life, passion & love that is inside each and every person that i document..."
...and i feel your senior portrait should do the same.
i remember my senior year of high school as if it was yesterday. i absolutely loved going to school, seeing my friends daily, going to homecoming games, running track & involving myself in a zillion extracurricular activities. yes, i was a dork & i wouldn't change a thing.
to me, your senior year is one of the first big defining moments in your life. one HUGE chapter closes as you enter a brand new one... i cannot imagine a better time to have photographs taken that actually reflect you for who you are, what you love & believe in.
i will never forget my senior session experience. it was in a studio and every single photograph taken was carefully posed & staged. there was nothing 'me' about it,,, other than the few outfits i brought, & it certainly wasn't fun. not in the slightest. needless to say, it is no wonder that the only image that i liked from the session was the very last image taken. i had asked the photographer if he wouldn't mind taking a photograph of me just sitting, relaxed... as i would naturally (i know, such a strange concept?!!). he obliged & as i sat on the ground, wrapped my friendship bracelet ladden arms around one of my legs, i felt... comfortable -- i felt like myself, so i smiled. a real ksenija smile.
even though times have changed & senior sessions have definitely pushed a more creative turn, this past summer i found myself thinking about how they can be pushed even further.
...and this is where Molly comes into picture. literally.

it all began one early morning as i met up with my friend & dear client, Trish, at the uber tasty Toast in Birmingham. it wasn't my first time there, but it was my first time to be seated in the living room-like area in the right section of the restaurant. as we sipped on coffee & devoured a medley of fresh goodness, i couldn't help but be inspired by the decor & atmosphere. then, something just clicked -- it would be ah!wesome to do a photo shoot here, i thought outloud. next thing you know, i ran my idea by the manager at Toast & they were willing to let me run with it... only catch was we would have to start at 6:30/7:00am. this, to me, wasn't a problem at all,,, and luckily neither was it to Molly!
Molly is an incredibly passionate, fun, smart, sweet, unique, stylish, genuine & loving soul -- not to mention absolutely beautyFULL!!! her smile & personality could make the darkest color happy & bright... don't believe me? check out the images below & you will see what i mean.
you might also remember Molly from Jessica & RJ's wedding (RJ is her brother!). my rad intern Corey (a bit more about him below!), happens to also be Molly's brother.
i love how life can be so connected and feel blessed to know this amazing family, as well as to have the opportunity to get to know them even better throughout the years. life IS soooo good!
without further ado,,, the radiant MOLLY

when Molly was changing into one of her next outfits, i snapped a few pics of my awesome intern Corey.
i thought it was really special that he was able to assist me & be part of his sister's session. the other day, i asked Corey to describe himself at this present point in time in 3 words. he said, "Authentic, passionate, eager"... & i would have to agree.
