Happy.father's.day!

Jun 15, 2008 Personal
i just wanted to take a moment to wish all the Father's out there a most happy father's day! i hope it is spent relaxing, laughing & enjoying the day with the ones you love.

i also wanted to wish my father, or my Tata (the yugoslavian way of saying "dad"), a most happy father's day. even though i already saw him today, i unfortunately somehow forgot to bring my camera (don't ask me how that happened -- i guess there is just too much on my mind!).

however, i thought it would be neat to share with you a special piece i created for him a couple of years ago. my mom & dad had recently returned from a trip to yugoslavia to visit family. my dad had been given this envelope filled with old photos from his past --- photos he hadn't seen in at least over 20 years. it was just amazing to go through them with him & hear all the stories (side note : for anyone who knows my Dad, he is filllllllled with so many great stories!). the best part of all of this was watching my father's expression & smile as he held each photograph -- his entire being lit up. i will never forget this moment i shared with him & immediately, i knew i had to do something special to preserve these images. yes, an album would work, definitely, but i wanted it to be something he could see on the wall everyday.

thus, i created & framed the image below for him. my father is pictured throughout it but to make it easiest for you, he is literally directly in the middle with the big cool sunglasses & smile. i added in only a few recent images of my grandmother that i had taken at my sister's college graduation party (almost 10 years ago now) but all in all, i wanted to create something to serve as a reminder of his beautiful life, friends, family & the memories that are forever in his heart.

i wanted him to always be able to easily look at this image & smile that big huge smile....

...just like he always makes me smile every time i see him.

Tata, thank you for always being you. for always loving me no matter what. for always being a supportive backbone & the best advice that i could get. i am, & have always been, so proud of who you are. i hope to be at least half the example to my future children one day. i love you.
